This paper discusses a set of sequences with a zero correlation zone such that their Fourier transform over GF(p) corresponding to the Hadamard transform over GF(p) takes only unit magnitude, called a bent ZCZ code. The constructions and properties of polyphase bent ZCZ codes of period p(n) including bi-phase and quadriphase ones are clarified.

A quasi-synchronous CDMA scheme using a spreading code with a zero correlation zone called ZCZ code and a block cording technique with the Rake receiver with the pilot-symbol-aided channel estimation, which is called BC-ZCZ-CDMA, can almost remove the multiple access interference (MAl) and inter symbol interference (lSI) over multipass Rayleigh fading channel. In large delay spread with high-speed real-time transmission, it is necessary to increase the block size K in order to remove MAT and ISI. However the calculation of the inverse matrix in the Rake receiver takes time of the cube order of the block size corresponding to the number of data symbols transmitted in one bundle, i.e., O(K-3). This paper discusses BC-ZCZ-CDMA that L ZCZ sequences is assigned to a user, and investigates the bit error rate performance over a multipath Rayleigh fading channel. As final results, the number of users decreases, but the calculation time becomes O((K/L)(3)). Furthermore a pilot signal can be designed effectively, and the overall system will be simplified.

To achieve more high-speed communication systems, multiple-input multiple-output orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (MIMO/OFDM) is adopted in several standardisations. On the other hand, the conventional MIMO/OFDM requires many pilot signals to estimate the channel state information (CSI). To achieve an accurate CSI with the small number of pilot signals, high time resolution carrier interferometry (HTRCI) for MIMO/OFDM has been proposed. Moreover, QR decomposition with M-algorithm maximum likelihood detection (QRM-MLD) and channel ranking has been proposed to achieve both the reducing complexity and the improving system performance. However, the conventional HTRCI-MIMO/OFDM with the QRM-MLD and channel ranking did not consider the problem of the fast fading channel. In the fast fading environment, many errors are caused in the last part of the packet. To overcome this problem, the decision-direct method has been proposed. However, it requires large complexity because of the iterative processing. Therefore, in this paper, we propose the non-linear prediction method for an HTRCI-MIMO/OFDM with the QRM-MLD and channel ranking. Copyright (c) 2014 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

In this paper, we propose a new structure for a compact matched filter bank for a mutually orthogonal zero-correlation zone (MO-ZCZ) sequence set consisting of ternary sequence pairs obtained by Hadamard and binary ZCZ sequence sets; this construction reduces the number of two-input adders and delay elements. The matched filter banks are implemented on a field-programmable gate array (FPGA) with 51,840 logic elements (LEs). The proposed matched filter bank for an MO-ZCZ sequence set of length 160 can be constructed by a circuit size that is about 8.6% that of a conventional matched filter bank.

To achieve more high speed and high quality systems of wireless communications, orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) has been proposed. Moreover, OFDMA considering the multiuser diversity (MUDiv) has been also proposed to achieve more high system performance. On the other hand, the conventional MUDiv/OFDMA requires large complexity to select the subcarrier of each user. To solve this problem, we have proposed a MUDiv/OFDMA based on the low granularity block (LGB). However, it degrades the system performance in the environment which contains many deep faded subcarrier channels. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a cooperative LGB-MUDiv/OFDMA to mitigate the influence due to the deep faded subcarrier channel.

A wireless communication technology that allows multiple users to communicate in real time is strongly required to support various needs such as high performance remote control systems to simultaneously move many mobile units like robots and vehicles and wireless network systems to dynamically link mobile units. This paper proposes a new multicarrier code division multiple access (MC-CDMA) scheme without the multiple access interference (MAI) and inter carrier interference (ICI) over a very large delay spread channel, which can be characterized by a block coding technique using a set of sequences with a zero correlation zone (ZCZ code) and a minimum mean square error (MMSE) RAKE receiver utilizing the pilot sequence for channel estimation to remove MAI and ICI and to reduce the influence of the inter symbol interference (ISI), respectively. It does not need a frequency domain equalization technique which has been used in multicarrier communications. The length of delay spread is related to only block size and does not depend on the size of the zero correlation zone and the number of users. In various parameters including an effective ZCZ code, the improved bit error rate (BER) performance of the proposed scheme is demonstrated by computer simulation.

In this paper, we evaluate the influence by a continuous wave (CW) interference on the bit error rate (BER) performance of the spread spectrum (SS) system using a real-valued Huffman sequence under the additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) environment. The aperiodic correlation function of the sequence has zero sidelobes except at the left and right shift-ends. The system can give the unified communication and ranging system because the output of a matched filter (MF) is the ideal impulse by generating transmitted signal of period N from the sequence of length M = 2(k) N + 1, k is nonnegative integer. As a result, the BER performance of the system under the AWGN and CW interference environment is improved with increase in the sequence length M.

Recently, amplify-and-forward (AF) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) relay transmissions are studied to achieve high quality communications. On the other hand, they have to estimate all channels between the source-relay and relay destination nodes in the receiver. In MIMO orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems, high time resolution carrier interferometry (HTRCI) has been proposed to achieve an accurate channel estimation (CE) with a small number of pilot signals. However, the conventional HTRCI-MIMO/OFDM is not adopted in AF relay transmissions. Therefore, in this paper, we propose the complex HTRCI (C-HTRCI) pilot signal to achieve an accurate CE for AF relay MIMO/OFDM systems.

The present paper proposes two new methods for constructing polyphase asymmetric zero-correlation zone (A-ZCZ) sequence sets. In previous studies, the authors proposed methods for constructing quasi-optimal polyphase A-ZCZ sequence sets using perfect sequences and for constructing optimal polyphase A-ZCZ sequence sets using discrete Fourier transform (DFT) matrices. However, in these methods, the total number of sequences in an A-ZCZ sequence set cannot exceed the period of the perfect sequence or the dimension of the DFT matrix used for constructing the A-ZCZ sequence set. We now propose two extended versions of these methods. The proposed methods can generate a quasi-optimal or optimal polyphase A-ZCZ sequence set where the total number of sequences exceeds the period of the perfect sequence or the dimension of the DFT matrix. In other words, the proposed methods can generate new A-ZCZ sequence sets that cannot be obtained from the known methods.

In multi-carrier transmission systems, MC-CDMA and MC-DS-CDMA have been proposed. However, when large delay spread is longer than guard interval (GI), the inter symbol interference (ISI) and inter carrier interference (ICI) are occurred. Their interferences cause the system performance deterioration. This paper treats MC-CDMA and MC-DS-CDMA with four kinds of orthogonal spreading sequence including even-shift orthogonal sequences (E-sequence) type zero correlation zone (E-ZCZ) code in large delay spread channel. Moreover, interleaving method is considered in MC-DS-CDMA. Finally, the bit error rate (BER) performance is evaluated by computer simulation.

In this paper, we manufacture the parallel transmission system consisting of an infrared light emitting diode (LED), an avalanche photo diode (APD) module and a field programmable gate array (FPGA) board corresponding to 132, 540 logic elements (LEs) by way of trial, and evaluate the BER performance of the optical ZCZ-CDMA system with the equal gain combining (EGC) by the indoor experiment. As a result of indoor experiment with the parallel transmission system, BER performance improves with an increase in number of received APD by the EGC.

In this paper, we theoretically analyse the influence by intersymbol interference (ISI) on the bit error rate (BER) performance of the spread spectrum (SS) system using a real-valued Huffman sequence whose aperiodic correlation function has zero sidelobes except at the left and right shift-ends, under the quasi-static Rayleigh fading environment. The system can give the unified communication and ranging system because the output of a matched filter (MF) is the ideal impulse by overlap of 1 chip. As a result, the BER performance of the system under the quasi-static Rayleigh fading environment is improved with decrease in the absolute value of the shift-end value, is not influenced by ISI if the shift-end value is almost zero-value.

ZCZ-CDMA operating under quasi-synchronous timing control and using zero correlation zone (ZCZ) code possesses interference free performance and fast frame acquisition. This paper discusses fast synchronization acquisition methods using a matched filter bank, which simultaneously calculates correlation between a received signal and any sequence in ZCZ code, and the effectiveness is shown from synchronization error rates (SER) on the AWGN and Rayleigh fading channels.
