Abstract

In a FSS-OFDMA, the OFDM symbol is spread, and the subcarriers are assigned for each user in the frequency band. As the principal subcarrier allocation for each user, localized and interleaved allocations have been proposed, and the interleaved allocation is improved for the BER performance to avoid continuous deep faded subcarrier channels. Also, in the independent channel fluctuation for each user, the MUDiv gain is obtained by the individual and block subcarrier allocations. However, they have a trade-off problem between the BER performance and the computational complexity. To solve this problem, the interleaved block subcarrier allocation has been proposed. On the other hand, the interleaved block is only evaluated for the individual subcarrier and is not evaluated for the several subcarriers. Moreover, the power combination between the subcarrier and the channel is also improved for the BER performance, but the individual and block subcarrier allocations are only evaluated. Therefore, in this paper, we propose the interleaved block subcarrier allocation and the power combination for a FSS-MUDiv/OFDMA.

A set of sequences with a zero correlation zone named as a ZCZ code can provide CDMA systems with interference free performance called ZCZ-CDMA. A ZCZ code with the slightly large zero correlation zone, in which family size reaches the mathematical upper bound, may be used to offer a CDMA system with high stability and transmission efficiency in inferior channel environment. This paper designs a matched filter bank (MFB) of p-phase ZCZ codes with the above properties, which can simultaneously take correlation between a received symbol sequence and every sequence in the ZCZ code, and can be designed by the minimum number of circuit elements. The MFB will provide a ZCZ-CDMA module which can construct a network system flexibly, since it can detect all data bits at the same time and can utilize them.

The optical zero-correlation zone (ZCZ) sequence set is a set of pairs of binary and bi-phase sequences with a zero-correlation zone, and can provide optical code division multiple access (OCDMA) systems without cochannel interference. We have proposed the construction of a compact-type matched filter bank for this sequence set. However, the OCDMA system using this filter bank might have reduced bit error rate (BER) performance because the input-output characteristics of this filter bank for this sequence set with the zero-correlation zone 4z - 2, z = 1, 2, · · · are nonlinear. In this paper, we clarify that the BER performance of the OCDMA system using a compact-type matched filter bank is not influenced by the nonlinear characteristics of this filter bank, using the theoretical formula of BER characteristics and computer simulation.

Cooperative communications obtain the transmission and channel diversity gains by using the relay node. However, since cooperative communications transmit the redundancy signal to obtain the transmission diversity gain, the transmission rate is degraded. Moreover, since cooperative communications add the interference in the relay node, the diversity gain is also degraded. The packet splitting has been proposed based on the channel state information of the time domain to obtain the good system performance without the redundancy signal. Moreover, the adaptive modulation has been proposed to improve the transmission rate. In this paper, we propose the combination method with the packet splitting and the adaptive modulation based on the channel state information of the time domain to improve the bit error rate and throughput performances for decode-and-forward cooperative orthogonal frequency division multiplexing systems in the different channel model. From the computer simulation results, we determine the optimum weight and threshold for the proposed method. Moreover, the proposed method shows the good bit error rate and throughput performances.

In this paper, we propose a new structure for a compact matched filter bank (MFB) for an optical zero-correlation zone (ZCZ) sequence set with Zcz = 2z . The proposed MFB can reduces operation elements such as 2-input adders and delay elements. The number of 2-input adders decrease from O(N2) to O(N log2 N), delay elements decrease from O(N2) to O(N). In addition, the proposed MFBs for the sequence of length 32, 64, 128 and 256 with Zcz = 2
4 and 8 are implemented on a field programmable gate array (FPGA). As a result, the numbers of logic elements (LEs) of the proposed MFBs for the sequences with Zcz = 2 of length 32, 64, 128 and 256 are suppressed to about 76.2%, 84.2%, 89.7% and 93.4% compared to that of the conventional MFBs, respectively.

In this paper, we theoretically analyse the influence of intersymbol interference (ISI) and continuous wave interference (CWI) on the bit error rate (BER) performance of the spread spectrum (SS) system using a real-valued Human sequence under the additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) environment. The aperiodic correlation function of the Human sequence has zero sidelobes except the shift-end values at the left and right ends of shift. The system can give the unified communication and ranging system because the output of a matched filter (MF) is the ideal impulse by generating transmitted signal of the bit duration T = NTc, N = 2n, n = 1

In Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) utilizing the fast Fourier transform (FFT) technique, a high Peak-to-Average-Power-Ratio (PAPR) appears at a transmitter and causes signal wave distortion due to the nonlinearity of the amplifier. Namely the system performance degrades and power consumption increases. In the proposed PAPR reduction techniques, there is an application of the discrete Fourier transform (DFT) which is not FFT, and the fast Hadamard transform (FHT) using a binary Hadamard matrix. This paper considers OFDM with FHT using a complex Hadamard matrix including a binary one applied to complex pseudo-random numbers. Their PAPR characteristic and Bit-Error-Rate (BER) performance are investigated in the view of the matrix order and the output phase-number, and the effectiveness of the complex Hadamard matrix is shown.

Multi-hop relay transmissions achieve high quality and vast area communications by using several relay nodes. For the relay method based on an amplify-and-forward (AF), channel estimation (CE) is only demanded in the destination node. In the single-hop AF relay transmission for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems, we have proposed the CE by using the pilot signal based on the time frequency interferometry (TFI). However, in the multi-hop AF relay transmission, the conventional TFI method degrades the system performance due to a null signal and the overlapped channel. To solve this problem, in this paper, we propose the CE based on the real and imaginary TFI pilot signals in the three hop AF relay transmission for OFDM systems.

Amplify-and-forward (AF) relay multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems can achieve high data rate and high quality communications. On the other hand, it has to estimate all channels between the source-relay and relay-destination nodes in the destination node. In MIMO/OFDM systems, high time resolution carrier interferometry (HTRCI) has been proposed to achieve an accurate channel estimation (CE) with a small number of pilot signals. However, since it has many interferences, an accurate CE is not obtained and the system performance is degraded in AF relay MIMO/OFDM systems. Therefore, in this paper, we propose the complex HTRCI (C-HTRCI) pilot signal and the enhanced minimum mean square error (E-MMSE) equalization to achieve an accurate CE and to improve the system performance for AF relay MIMO/OFDM systems.

Amplify-and-forward (AF) relay transmissions can achieve a low power long distance communication. The problem of the AF method is that the channel state information (CSI) between source-relay (SR) and relay-destination (RD) should be obtained simultaneously in the destination node. The pilot signal is inserted to obtain the CSI, and the time frequency interferometry (TFI) method can reduce the number of pilot signals and the channel estimation (CE) power. This paper proposes the low power CE for AF relay transmissions in an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing based on the TFI method.

This paper discusses a set of sequences with a zero correlation zone such that their Fourier transform over GF(p) corresponding to the Hadamard transform over GF(p) takes only unit magnitude, called a bent ZCZ code. The constructions and properties of polyphase bent ZCZ codes of period p(n) including bi-phase and quadriphase ones are clarified.

A quasi-synchronous CDMA scheme using a spreading code with a zero correlation zone called ZCZ code and a block cording technique with the Rake receiver with the pilot-symbol-aided channel estimation, which is called BC-ZCZ-CDMA, can almost remove the multiple access interference (MAl) and inter symbol interference (lSI) over multipass Rayleigh fading channel. In large delay spread with high-speed real-time transmission, it is necessary to increase the block size K in order to remove MAT and ISI. However the calculation of the inverse matrix in the Rake receiver takes time of the cube order of the block size corresponding to the number of data symbols transmitted in one bundle, i.e., O(K-3). This paper discusses BC-ZCZ-CDMA that L ZCZ sequences is assigned to a user, and investigates the bit error rate performance over a multipath Rayleigh fading channel. As final results, the number of users decreases, but the calculation time becomes O((K/L)(3)). Furthermore a pilot signal can be designed effectively, and the overall system will be simplified.

To achieve more high-speed communication systems, multiple-input multiple-output orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (MIMO/OFDM) is adopted in several standardisations. On the other hand, the conventional MIMO/OFDM requires many pilot signals to estimate the channel state information (CSI). To achieve an accurate CSI with the small number of pilot signals, high time resolution carrier interferometry (HTRCI) for MIMO/OFDM has been proposed. Moreover, QR decomposition with M-algorithm maximum likelihood detection (QRM-MLD) and channel ranking has been proposed to achieve both the reducing complexity and the improving system performance. However, the conventional HTRCI-MIMO/OFDM with the QRM-MLD and channel ranking did not consider the problem of the fast fading channel. In the fast fading environment, many errors are caused in the last part of the packet. To overcome this problem, the decision-direct method has been proposed. However, it requires large complexity because of the iterative processing. Therefore, in this paper, we propose the non-linear prediction method for an HTRCI-MIMO/OFDM with the QRM-MLD and channel ranking. Copyright (c) 2014 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

In this paper, we propose a new structure for a compact matched filter bank for a mutually orthogonal zero-correlation zone (MO-ZCZ) sequence set consisting of ternary sequence pairs obtained by Hadamard and binary ZCZ sequence sets; this construction reduces the number of two-input adders and delay elements. The matched filter banks are implemented on a field-programmable gate array (FPGA) with 51,840 logic elements (LEs). The proposed matched filter bank for an MO-ZCZ sequence set of length 160 can be constructed by a circuit size that is about 8.6% that of a conventional matched filter bank.

To achieve more high speed and high quality systems of wireless communications, orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) has been proposed. Moreover, OFDMA considering the multiuser diversity (MUDiv) has been also proposed to achieve more high system performance. On the other hand, the conventional MUDiv/OFDMA requires large complexity to select the subcarrier of each user. To solve this problem, we have proposed a MUDiv/OFDMA based on the low granularity block (LGB). However, it degrades the system performance in the environment which contains many deep faded subcarrier channels. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a cooperative LGB-MUDiv/OFDMA to mitigate the influence due to the deep faded subcarrier channel.

A wireless communication technology that allows multiple users to communicate in real time is strongly required to support various needs such as high performance remote control systems to simultaneously move many mobile units like robots and vehicles and wireless network systems to dynamically link mobile units. This paper proposes a new multicarrier code division multiple access (MC-CDMA) scheme without the multiple access interference (MAI) and inter carrier interference (ICI) over a very large delay spread channel, which can be characterized by a block coding technique using a set of sequences with a zero correlation zone (ZCZ code) and a minimum mean square error (MMSE) RAKE receiver utilizing the pilot sequence for channel estimation to remove MAI and ICI and to reduce the influence of the inter symbol interference (ISI), respectively. It does not need a frequency domain equalization technique which has been used in multicarrier communications. The length of delay spread is related to only block size and does not depend on the size of the zero correlation zone and the number of users. In various parameters including an effective ZCZ code, the improved bit error rate (BER) performance of the proposed scheme is demonstrated by computer simulation.

In this paper, we evaluate the influence by a continuous wave (CW) interference on the bit error rate (BER) performance of the spread spectrum (SS) system using a real-valued Huffman sequence under the additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) environment. The aperiodic correlation function of the sequence has zero sidelobes except at the left and right shift-ends. The system can give the unified communication and ranging system because the output of a matched filter (MF) is the ideal impulse by generating transmitted signal of period N from the sequence of length M = 2(k) N + 1, k is nonnegative integer. As a result, the BER performance of the system under the AWGN and CW interference environment is improved with increase in the sequence length M.

Recently, amplify-and-forward (AF) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) relay transmissions are studied to achieve high quality communications. On the other hand, they have to estimate all channels between the source-relay and relay destination nodes in the receiver. In MIMO orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems, high time resolution carrier interferometry (HTRCI) has been proposed to achieve an accurate channel estimation (CE) with a small number of pilot signals. However, the conventional HTRCI-MIMO/OFDM is not adopted in AF relay transmissions. Therefore, in this paper, we propose the complex HTRCI (C-HTRCI) pilot signal to achieve an accurate CE for AF relay MIMO/OFDM systems.

The present paper proposes two new methods for constructing polyphase asymmetric zero-correlation zone (A-ZCZ) sequence sets. In previous studies, the authors proposed methods for constructing quasi-optimal polyphase A-ZCZ sequence sets using perfect sequences and for constructing optimal polyphase A-ZCZ sequence sets using discrete Fourier transform (DFT) matrices. However, in these methods, the total number of sequences in an A-ZCZ sequence set cannot exceed the period of the perfect sequence or the dimension of the DFT matrix used for constructing the A-ZCZ sequence set. We now propose two extended versions of these methods. The proposed methods can generate a quasi-optimal or optimal polyphase A-ZCZ sequence set where the total number of sequences exceeds the period of the perfect sequence or the dimension of the DFT matrix. In other words, the proposed methods can generate new A-ZCZ sequence sets that cannot be obtained from the known methods.

In multi-carrier transmission systems, MC-CDMA and MC-DS-CDMA have been proposed. However, when large delay spread is longer than guard interval (GI), the inter symbol interference (ISI) and inter carrier interference (ICI) are occurred. Their interferences cause the system performance deterioration. This paper treats MC-CDMA and MC-DS-CDMA with four kinds of orthogonal spreading sequence including even-shift orthogonal sequences (E-sequence) type zero correlation zone (E-ZCZ) code in large delay spread channel. Moreover, interleaving method is considered in MC-DS-CDMA. Finally, the bit error rate (BER) performance is evaluated by computer simulation.

In this paper, we manufacture the parallel transmission system consisting of an infrared light emitting diode (LED), an avalanche photo diode (APD) module and a field programmable gate array (FPGA) board corresponding to 132, 540 logic elements (LEs) by way of trial, and evaluate the BER performance of the optical ZCZ-CDMA system with the equal gain combining (EGC) by the indoor experiment. As a result of indoor experiment with the parallel transmission system, BER performance improves with an increase in number of received APD by the EGC.

In this paper, we theoretically analyse the influence by intersymbol interference (ISI) on the bit error rate (BER) performance of the spread spectrum (SS) system using a real-valued Huffman sequence whose aperiodic correlation function has zero sidelobes except at the left and right shift-ends, under the quasi-static Rayleigh fading environment. The system can give the unified communication and ranging system because the output of a matched filter (MF) is the ideal impulse by overlap of 1 chip. As a result, the BER performance of the system under the quasi-static Rayleigh fading environment is improved with decrease in the absolute value of the shift-end value, is not influenced by ISI if the shift-end value is almost zero-value.

In recent, to achieve several services with the information product, high speed and high quality systems of wireless communications are demanded. To achieve this demand, orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) has been proposed. In a wireless network, the transmitted signal of each user has independent channel fluctuation characteristics. By using this characteristic, the multiuser diversity (MUDiv) effect can be obtained, and MUDiv/OFDMA has been proposed. Before now, we have proposed a low complexity MUDiv/OFDMA. However, it degrades the system performance compared with the conventional MUDiv/OFDMA in the channel as a Pyramid model. To solve this problem, in this paper, we propose the method to mitigate the deep faded channel for a low complexity MUDiv/OFDMA with the relay node allocation. © 2013 IEEE.

The present paper proposes a new method for constructing mutually orthogonal zero-correlation zone (MO-ZCZ) sequence sets using perfect sequences, orthogonal codes, and an interleaving technique. Generally, an MO-ZCZ sequence set is composed of several ZCZ sequence sets, and two arbitrary sequences that belong to different ZCZ sequence sets have orthogonality. Each ZCZ sequence set included in the proposed MO-ZCZ sequence set is a quasi-optimal ZCZ sequence set. In addition, two arbitrary sequences that belong to different ZCZ sequence sets have not only orthogonality but also a zero-correlation zone of which the ZCZ length satisfies quasi-optimality. Consequently, the proposed MO-ZCZ sequence set can be regarded as a single quasi-optimal ZCZ sequence set. In this sense, the proposed MO-ZCZ sequence set can be regarded as a generalized version of conventional MO-ZCZ sequence sets.

A quasi-synchronous optical code division multiple access (OCDMA) system, which uses a set of pairs of binary and bi-phase sequences with a zero correlation zone (Zcz) called an optical ZCZ (O-ZCZ) code as a spreading code, can efficiently mitigate multiple access interferences (MAI). This paper presents O-ZCZ codes of length 2(n+1) with the minimum zero correlation zone Zcz=1, which possess a low aperiodic autocorrelation property. They are derived from complementary sequence pairs of length 2(n) that the sum of these aperiodic autocorrelation functions take zero except zero-shift.

A quasi-timing synchronous code division multiple access (CDMA) system called ZCZ-CDMA, which uses a set of sequences with a zero-correlation zone called ZCZ code as a spreading code, is useful for short-range wireless communications because of its excellent properties such as co-channel interference-free performance, simplified hardware design, and low transmit power as well as fast frame synchronization capability. In this paper, a ZCZ-CDMA system with binary frequency-shift keying (BFSK) modulation called BFSK-ZCZ-CDMA is proposed. This system is characterized by using a pair of balanced ZCZ codes for spreading and transmitting the two spread components over the respective keying carrier frequencies. Its bit error rate performance, compared with those of existing BPSK-ZCZ-CDMA, ASK-ZCZ-CDMA, and CDMA systems using the other spreading codes, is evaluated in theory and simulation. The bit error rate performance of the three ZCZ-CDMA systems over additive white Gaussian noise and Rayleigh fading channels are formulated. It is proved that BFSK-ZCZ-CDMA is much more robust in anti-fading performance and low transmit power in such an environment that fading distributions on the keying frequencies are independent mutually. Recently, asymmetric zero-correlation zone (A-ZCZ) sequence sets that are composed of several sequence subsets have been proposed. In A-ZCZ sequence sets, the zero-cross-con-elation zone (ZCCZ) length between different sequence subsets is larger than the zero-correlation zone (ZCZ) length in each sequence subset. However, the ZCCZ length between different sequence subsets was not precisely shown in previous studies. The present letter shows precisely the ZCCZ length between different sequence subsets. This information is useful for estimating the magnitude of inter-cell interference when designing approximately synchronized code-division multiple-access (AS-CDMA) systems.

In this paper, we analyze the bit error rate (BER) performance of optical code division multiple access (CDMA) system based on the optical zero-correlation zone (ZCZ) code using the optical correlator which is called optical ZCZ-CDMA system, over the optical fiber and space by theoretical formula. In the optical fiber transmission of this system, the effect of the avalanche photodiode (APD) noise, thermal noise and co-channel interference are considered. Additionally, the effects of the scintillation and background noise are considered in the optical space transmission of this system. The optical ZCZ code, which is a set of pairs of a binary sequence consisting of 1 or 0 and a biphase sequence consisting of 1 or -1 with zero-correlation zone, may be able to provide optical CDMA communication system suppressed co-channel interference. As a result, the BER performance of optical ZCZ-CDMA system over the optical space go down compared to that over the optical fiber, and this system can't remove completely co-channel interference.

The even-shift orthogonal sequence whose out-of-phase aperiodic autocorrelation function takes zero at any even shifts is generalized to multi-dimension called even-shift orthogonal array (E-array), and the logic function of E-array of power-of-two length is clarified. It is shown that E-array can be constructed by complementary arrays, which mean pairs of arrays that the sum of each aperiodic autocorrelation function at the same phase shifts takes zero at any shift except zero shift, as well as the one-dimensional case. It is also shown that the number of mates of E-array with which the cross correlation function between E-arrays takes zero at any even shifts is equal to the dimension. Furthermore it is investigated that E-array possesses good aperiodic autocorrelation that the rate of zero correlation values to array length approaches one as the dimension becomes large.

The present paper proposes a new method for constructing polyphase asymmetric zero-correlation zone (A-ZCZ) sequence sets. The proposed method can generate A-ZCZ sequence sets that cannot be obtained from methods proposed by other researchers and is a generalized version of our previously proposed method. An A-ZCZ sequence set can be regarded as a ZCZ sequence set. The newly obtained A-ZCZ sequence sets include quasi-optimal ZCZ sequence sets of which the zero-cross-correlation zone (ZCCZ) length between different sequence subsets is larger than the mathematical upper bound of conventional ZCZ sequence sets. A new method for extending the A-ZCZ sequence sets is also presented in the present paper.

This paper presents a method of generating sets of orthogonal and zero-correlation zone (ZCZ) periodic real-valued sequences of period 2(n), n >= 1. The sequences admit a fast correlation algorithm and the sets of sequences achieve the upper bound on family size. A periodic orthogonal sequence has the periodic autocorrelation function with zero sidelobes, and a set with orthogonal sequences whose mutual periodic crosscorrelation function at zero shift is zero. Similarly, a ZCZ set is the set of the sequences with zero-correlation zone. In this paper, we derive the real-valued periodic orthogonal sequences of period 2" from a real-valued Huffman sequence of length 2(v) + 1, v being a positive integer and v >= n, whose aperiodic autocorrelation function has zero sidelobes except possibly at the left and right shift-ends. The orthogonal and ZCZ sets of real-valued periodic orthogonal sequences are useful in various systems, such as synchronous code division multiple access (CDMA) systems, quasi-synchronous CDMA systems and digital watermarkings.

The optical ZCZ code, which is a set of pairs of binary and biphase sequences with zero correlation zone, can provide code division multiple access (CDMA) communication system without co-channel interference. The M-ary amplitude shift keying spread spectrum (M-ary/ASK-SS) system using this code can detect a desired sequence without interference of undesired sequences. We have proposed the compact construction of a matched filter bank for this code, which is called the compact-type matched filter bank. However, M-ary/ASK-SS system using this filter bank might go down the bit error rate (BER) performance because input-output characteristics of this filter bank for this code with zero correlation zone 4n-2 are nonlinear characteristics. In this paper, we clarify that BER performance in the M-ary/ASK-SS system over the additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channels is not influenced by nonlinear characteristics of this filter bank by the theoretical formula of BER characteristics and the computer simulation. The BER performance in the ASK-SS system using compact-type matched filter under the AWGN environment go down compared to that using direct-type matched filter as expected. But the BER performance in the M-ary/ASK-SS system using this compact-type matched filter bank under the AWGN environment is almost equal compared to that using parallel-type matched filter bank. In fact, this compact-type matched filter bank is effective in the M-ary/ASK-SS system. © 2011 IEEE.

It has been shown that complete complementary codes can be applied into CDMA communication systems because of its good correlation properties. A digital watermarking scheme using complete complementary codes has also been proposed. In this watermarking scheme, it is possible to embed the multiple secret data in a single image at the same time, but the effectiveness and the limit of the method has not been fully explored. In this study, the properties of the watermarking method are analyzed when the multiple secret ID's are embedded into a single image simultaneously. The paper also includes the discussion on the extension to a kind of steganography. © 2011 IEEE.

Complete complementary code can be applied to digital watermarking technologies as well as communication systems like approximately synchronized CDMA because of its good correlation properties. In this paper, we propose a blind watermarking algorithm which does not need to refer any original data in the watermark extraction process. In this paper, we propose the construction of two code generators for an optical ZCZ code of length N = 2(n), family size M = N/2-2 and zero correlation zone 1, which are called ROM-type and non ROM-type code generators. The optical ZCZ code is a set of pairs of binary and bi-phase sequences with zero correlation zone. An optical code division multiple access (CDMA) system using this code can remove co-channel interference and influence of multi-path. This ROM-type code generator can be constructed by a ROM and an up-counter. Similarly, this non ROM-type code generator can be constructed by an up-counter and logic gates. The ROM-type and non ROM-type code generators are implemented on a field programmable gate array (FPGA) corresponding to 400,000 logic gates, and the non ROM-type code generator can reduce logic elements than the ROM-type code generator.

Complementary arrays means genaralization of a pair of sequences to multi-dimension, that at the same phase-shift the sum of these aperiodic auto-correlation functions takes zero except zero-shift. This paper considers logic functions of complementary arrays with length 2(n) including polyphase arrays whose elements consist of unit magnitude. The functions can show that these number is huge and relates to the phase number and length, but not dimension.

And M-ary amplitude shift keying spread spectrum (M-ary/ASK-SS) system using this code can detect a desired sequence without interference of undesired sequences. We proposed the compact construction of a bank of matched filters for this code, which is called tree-type bank of matched filters. However, M-ary/ASK-SS system using this filters might go down the bit error rate (BER) performance because input-output characteristics of this filters for zero correlation zone 4n-2 is nonlinear characteristics.
In this paper, we clarify that BER performance in ASK-SS and M-ary/ASK-SS system under the additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) and the frequency nonselective fading environments are not influenced by nonlinear characteristics of this filters by the computer simulation. The BER performance of ASK-SS system using tree-type bank of matched filters under the AWGN and frequency nonselective fading environments go down compared to BER performance of parallel-type filters as expected. But the BER performance of M-ary/ASK-SS system using this compact filters under the AWGN and frequency nonselective fading environment are almost equal compared to BER performance of parallel-type filters. In fact, the BER performance in M-ary/ASK-SS are not influenced by nonlinear characteristics of tree-type bank of matched filters.

We proposed the compact construction of a code generator and a bank of matched filters for this code.
In this paper, we verified that this system can suppress co-channel interference and interference by shifting of optical axis by data multiplex transmission experiment of optical COMA system using optical ZCZ codes which is called ZCZ-COMA system, consisting of a infrared light emitting diode(LEO), an avalanche photo diode(APO) module and field programmable gate array(FPGA) boards corresponding to 400,000 logic gates.
As a result of data transmission experiment, optical ZCZCOMA system can suppress co-channel interference, but can't remove completely co-channel interference, and interference by shifting of optical axis is suppressed from about -30 to 30 degrees.

ZCZ-CDMA systems, which can remove co-channel interference by means of synchronization control and use of ZCZ codes, are useful for Short-Range Wireless communications. This paper investigates BER performance on ZCZ-CDMA systems using ASK, PSK, and BFSK modulations. This paper proposes a ZCZ-CDMA demodulation using signals which result from the combination of the preceding signal and the delayed signal. Because the preceding signal and delayed signal contain the same information, the path diversity gain is obtained by combining them. Computer simulations confirm that the BER performance is improved by combining the desired signals over Multipath fading channels.

In the high speed parallel transmission of optical wireless communication, shifting of optical axis is important problem. An optical CDMA system using the optical ZCZ code is proposed as a method with the possibility that this problem can be solved without complicating hardware. The optical ZCZ code, which is a set of pairs of binary and bi-phase sequences with zero correlation zone, can provide optical code division multiple access (CDMA) communication system without co-channel interference. We proposed the compact construction of a code generator and a bank of matched filters for this code.
In this paper, we verified that this system can remove co-channel interference even if an optical axis is shifted, by experiment of parallel transmission using an optical ZCZ-CDMA wireless communication system, consisting of a infrared light emitting diode(LED), an avalanche photo diode(APD) module and field programmable gate array(FPGA) boards corresponding to 400, 000 logic gates. Desired to undesired signal ratio (DU ratio) in correlation output whose shiftings of optical axis are 0 degrees and 45 degrees are improved about 61.9dB and 39.1dB, respectively. As a result of experiment on the optical parallel transmission, it was proved that this system was able to suppress interference by shifting of optical axis.

Quasi-synchronous CDMA systems, which can remove co-channel interference by means of synchronization control and use of a ZCZ code, are useful for Short-Range Wireless communications. This paper proposes a BFSK-ZCZ-CDMA modulation system which appears more advantageous in bit-error-rate performance over multi-path fading channels than ASK or PSK modulation scheme. In this system, a balanced ZCZ code and a quasi-coherent detection with IQ separation are used. The bit-error-rate performances over AWGN and fading channels are simulated.

This paper proposes a real-valued orthogonal periodic sequence of a period N = 2(nu) derived from a real-valued shift-orthogonal finite-length sequence of length M = 2(nu) + 1. This paper also explains the principle of a fast correlation algorithm that efficiently executes periodic correlation processing for this real-valued orthogonal periodic sequence. The sidelobe of an aperiodic autocorrelation function for a real-valued shift-orthogonal finite-length sequence (length of M) is 0 except for the right and left ends of the shift. If the subsequent sequence of first values repeatedly overlap the final values of this sequence, a real-valued orthogonal periodic sequence of a period N = M - 1 can be obtained. A real-valued orthogonal periodic sequence of a period N = 2(nu) generated from real-valued shift-orthogonal finite-length sequence of length M = 2(nu) + I is obtained by convoluting partial sequences and based on that controls the number of multiplications and the number of additions to increment on the order of Nlog(2)N without using fast Fourier trans formation. Real-valued shift-orthogonal finite-length sequences are sequences in which the side lobes of the aperiodic autocorrelation function become 0, except for the end points of the shift to both sides, and can be applied in pulse compression radar and spread spectrum communications. In this paper, a fast correlation algorithm for efficiently calculating the periodic correlation function is discussed for real-valued shift-orthogonal finite-length sequences with length M = 2 nu + 1. For input data, including a real-valued shift-orthogonal finite-length sequence over a certain range, the value of the aperiodic correlation function is found in a certain shift range. Based on the synthesis of this sequence by the convolution of nu + I partial sequences, the correlation processing is broken down into correlation processing of the nu + I stages of partial sequences. This paper investigates properties of the even-shift orthogonal sequence of length 2(n), whose out-of-phase aperiodic auto-correlation function takes zero at any even shift. It is shown that the halves of all E-sequences with odd n produced by logic functions are balanced sequences, whose elements 1 and -1 appear half, and there is not any balanced E-sequence for even n. Furthermore it is also shown that the aperiodic auto-correlation function possesses low values at odd shifts.

The optical ZCZ code is a set of pairs of binary and biphase sequences with zero correlation zone. An optical M-ary direct sequence spread spectrum (M-ary/DS-SS) system using this code can detect a desired sequence without interference of undesired sequences. However, the bank of matched filters in a receiver circuit may fall into large scale. In this paper, we propose the compact construction of a bank of matched filters for an M-ary/DS-SS system using an optical ZCZ code. This filter bank can decrease the number of 2-input adders from O(N-2) to O(N) and delay circuits from O(N-2) to O(N log(2) N), respectively, and is implemented on a field programmable gate array (FPGA) corresponding to 400, 000 logic gates.

A real-valued shift-orthogonal finite-length sequence is a sequence for which the side-lobe of the aperiodic autocorrelation function is zero except at the two ends. It is effectively used in spread-spectrum communications and other applications. This type of sequence can be synthesized by using element sequences of adequate lengths. Consequently, fast correlation processing can be realized by dividing the process for each element sequence. A problem in this sequence is that the round-off error of its real values has an effect on the correlation characteristics. Therefore, this paper investigates the effect of the round-off error on integrated correlation processing and divided correlation processing. In the former, the mean-square error of the correlation output is inversely proportional to the sequence length. In the latter, it is the sum of the mean-square errors of the element sequences, which are inversely proportional to the respective sequence lengths. Thus, we see that the error of shorter element sequences should be reduced in the latter method in order to speed up correlation processing. This paper considers in particular a method by which the mean-square error is reduced without significantly enlarging the circuit scale. (C) 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

A real-valued shift-orthogonal finite-length sequence has a sharp autocorrelation function with zero sidelobes except at shift ends, and can be synthesized by element sequences. In this paper, we propose the structure of a digital matched Alter for Mary Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (M-ary/DS-SS) system using the sequences and the reduction of operation elements of the digital matched Alter. It is shown that this digital matched Alter for M-ary/DS-SS system can be constructed by the multipliers and the adders proportional to sequence length.
