    Panel 6: CLIL Education in Higher Education Institutions in Japan: A Survey Report
    Mai Kuramoto (Kagoshima University)
    In Japan, Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) has become increasingly
    popular as a pedagogical methodology among English/other language instructors from
    kindergarten to higher education level. Japan CLIL Pedagogy Association (J-CLIL) had
    conducted a survey in 2020 of language instructors. The objective of the survey was to
    investigate the current situation of CLIL practice in educational institutions and consider
    implications for the future of CLIL in the Japanese context. This presentation is based on the
    results from the part of the survey focusing on higher education institutions. Some of the
    themes that will be covered include; practitioners’ background, amount of CLIL usage in
    the classes, amount of English language use, content, instructors’ individual efforts,
    materials, cooperation between language and subject teachers, and problems in the CLIL
    classrooms. This presentation is supported by Miyako Nakaya (Nihon University) and Miyuki
    Yukita (Toyo Eiwa University), who made significant contributions to analyzing the data
