<p>鹿児島大学における，情報倫理ビデオと商用通信監視サービスと情報セキュリティマネージメントシステム（ISMS)を組み合わせた情報セキュリティ強化について述べる．情報セキュリティは人と運用と技術の3本柱により実現可能である．人の面の情報セキュリティの強化について我々は情報倫理ビデオを利用している．技術面については，商用通信監視サービスなどを利用している．商用通信監視サービスの利用により，大学の出入り口における24時間365日の監視を実現することができた．ところが運用に関しては，我々は標準的な情報セキュリティ強化の手段を持っていなかった．このことは大学間連携の障害にもなった．利用者の信頼を得るためにもなんらかの標準的な運用手段を持った方が好ましい．この問題を解決するため，ISMSを導入することを決定し，2013年4月に認証を受けた．ISMSを導入し認証を受ける過程で，多くの時間と労力を費やしたが，ISMSで実施する規定類の多くは，我々がいままで明文化せずに行っていたものであった．ISMSは情報セキュリティの強化だけでなく，日常的な業務やセンター教職員の管理の改善にも役に立っている．</p>

Generalized-ensemble algorithm and diffusion theory have been combined in order to compute the dynamical properties monitored by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) experiments from efficient and reliable evaluation of statistical averages. Replica-exchange Monte Carlo simulations have been performed with a C-peptide analogue of ribonuclease A, and the Smoluchowski diffusion equation has been applied. A fairly good agreement between the calculated and measured 1H-NOESY NMR cross peaks has been obtained. The combination of these advanced and continuously improving statistical tools allows the calculation of a wide variety of dynamical properties routinely obtained by experiments. © 2003 Elsevier B.V. Low-energy conformations of the S-peptide fragment (20 amino acid residues long) of ribonuclease A were studied by Monte Carlo simulated annealing. The obtained lowest-energy structures have α-helices with different size and location, depending distinctively on the ionizing states of acidic amino acid residues. The simulation started from completely random initial conformation and was performed without any bias toward a particular structure. The most conspicuous a-helices arose from the simulation when both Glu 9 and Asp 14 were assumed to be electrically neutral, whereas the resulting conformations became much less helical when Asp 14 rather than Glu 9 was allowed to have a negative charge. Together with experimental evidence that the a-helix in the S-peptide is most stable at pH 3.8, we consider the helix formation need the carboxyl group of Asp 14 to be electrically neutral in this weakly acidic condition. In contrast, a negative charge at Asp 14 appears to function in support of a view that this residue is crucial to helix termination owing to its possibility to form a salt bridge with His 12. These results indicate that the conformation of the S-peptide depends considerably on the ionizing state of Asp 14. © 2002 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

Performing Monte Carlo simulated annealing simulations of a peptide fragment BPTI(16-36) from randomly chosen initial conformations, we have obtained a β-sheet structure as the lowest-energy conformation. The solvent effects were included by the term that is proportional to the solvent-accessible surface area. This lowest-energy structure has a type II′ β-turn and three characteristic intrachain hydrogen bonds that connect the two β-strands. It turns out that the positions of the reverse turn and hydrogen bonds are in remarkable agreement with the implications of an NMR experiment of the same fragment.

We perform a generalized-ensemble simulation of a small peptide taking the interactions among all atoms into account. From this simulation we obtain thermodynamic quantities over a wide range of temperatures. In particular, we show that the folding of a small peptide is a multistage process associated with two characteristic temperatures, the collapse temperature to and the folding temperature T(f). Our results give supporting evidence for the energy landscape picture and funnel concept. These ideas were previously developed in the context of studies of simplified protein models, and here are checked in an all-atom Monte Carlo simulation.

We developed a digital method based on mathematical morphological operations to obtain three types of surfaces: van der Waals surface, solvent-accessible surface, and molecular surface, to extract the cavities on the surface and interior part of the molecule and to extract the ligand portions in contact with the cavities. The molecular surface, the cavities and the portions, and the heme region are visualized using solid modeling. The method enables us to obtain the volumes of the cavities and inhibitor portions and the areas of the surfaces. Solid modeling enables us to obtain cross-sections at arbitrary positions. This will have considerable utility in docking studies. © 1995.

We thought that multiple skeletons were inherent in an ordinary three-dimensional object. A thinning method is developed to extract multiple skeletons using 3×3×3 templates for boundary deletion based on the hit or miss transformation and 2×2×2 templates for checking one voxel thickness. We prepared twelve sets of deleting templates consisting of total 194 templates and 72 one voxel checking templates. One repetitive iteration using one sequential use of the template sets extracts one skeleton. Some of the skeletons thus obtained are identical; however, multiple independent skeletons are extracted by this method. These skeletons fulfill the well-recognized three conditions for a skeleton. We extracted three skeletons from the cube, two from the space shuttle model and four from the L-shaped figure by Tsao and Fu. The digital medial skeleton, which is not otherwise extracted, is extracted by comparing the multiple skeletons with the digital medial-axis-like-figure. One of our skeletons for the cube agreed with the ideal medial axis. The locations of the gravity center of the multiple skeletons are compared with that of the original shape to evaluate how uniform or non-biased skeletons are extracted. For the L-shaped figure, one of our skeletons is found to be most desirable from the medial and uniform points of view.

Government financed and managed broadband access services have been finally started at three islands in Mishima village and seven islands in Toshima village. Those are long-awaited services. In Mishima, submarine cables were newly laid and easily buried FTTH cables have been used in each islands. In Toshima, a leased circuit service has been adopted for backbone network and fixed wireless access systems have been deployed for access lines. Now, broadband Internet access services are able to be provided to every household in Mishima and Toshima.

An experience of enhancing information security for the ICT service department of a Japanese national university corporation is described. Information security is realized by the integration of people, processes, and technology. In order to enhance the people's side of information security, we have been using digital video clips, which are produced by a group of faculty members of Japanese universities. In order to enhance the technology side of information security, we have been using a managed security service and other means. We could reach 24 hours a day and 365 days a year monitoring at the doorway of the university using the service. However, we had no standard means to enhance the process side of information security until recently. This deficiency became an obstacle to making agreements between other universities on inter-university activities. This need also may be an obstacle to gaining reliance from users. In order to cope with this problem, we have decided to implement an information security management system (ISMS). It takes a lot of time and work to implement the ISMS. However, many parts of the ISMS were processes that we were already doing without any clear rules. The ISMS helps not only enhance information security but also improve daily work and management of the staff. Copyright 2013 ACM.

We established the 47.5 kilometer IEEE802.11g wireless link between two points which was the longest distance wireless LAN system in Japan. We achieved 4-8 Mbps TCP bandwidth at the link. But there was not enough discussion of such long distance wireless link. So this study was aimed at investigating the propagation characteristics of the long-distance wireless LAN system with experimentally and theoretically. As a result, we proposed the most effective factor of receive signal strength fluctuations to be the variation of reflected wave strength associated with atmospheric refractivity fluctuations.

In this paper, we have suggested the lower cost Community Broadband model by development of Internet access line sharing using wireless LAN and wireless LAN regional area network in a remote isolate island in Kagoshima.

In the small isolated island, it is effective to use the wireless LAN technology conforming to IEEE802.11g and IEEE802.11b. We report to have developed the broadband network, using the wireless LAN at Satsuma-Iwojima, the isolated island in Mishima of Kagoshima. In this network, we have evaluated network stability with RSSI and end-to-end capacity. Data of the Radar-AMeDAS precipitation have also been refered. As a result of these evaluations, we show that the wireless LAN is one of a best solution to set up regional LAN at difficult areas to develop.

It is difficult to deploy the broadband access infrastructure in small isolated islands. To solve this problem, it is so effective to develop with IEEE802.11b and IEEE802.11g wireless LAN techniques. We report an experimental deployment of our wireless LAN system to Tairajima, an isolated island of Kagoshima, and find decreases of network traffics. The decreases seems to cause visibilities and length between access points, and the WDS (Wireless Distribution System). The WDS is a system that enables to connect between access points wirelessly. For checking effects of the WDS, we develop WDS topological model, which gives information of topology effects.

Surface models with unorganized triangular meshes have already been built based on the "retrieving topology from the ranged surface data," procedure using, for example, Delaunay tessellations from the scanned cloud points. The procedure is widely used; however, when a high-density scanning is required, ranging error goes beyond the scanning interval and high-precision reconstruction becomes impossible. To overcome the problem, a topology pre-assigned high-resolution (1-10 μm) modeling procedure, is proposed for the irregular and complicated artifacts in shape. This procedure enables one to construct a watertight model and complete reproduction of the artifacts in shape and color, to manipulate the shape of the resulting model using CAD technologies for virtual restoration, cosmetic surgery, morphological anthropology and counterfeit detection. This proposal is practicable for all kinds of objects, automating the current manual, time consuming and rework requiring modeling, and producing a versatile successive 3D shape manipulation. ©2007 IEEE.

Active Directory is generally used for the authentication system of classroom Windows PCs. And in many case, some recovery software is installed on classroom PCs. In this situation, Active Directory server maintenance and temporary account registrations are complicated, and user logon process is very time consuming because user profiles are deleted in each start-up process. In order to avoid these problems, we have developed our own authentication system for classroom Windows PCs using one-time password and CIFS authentication.

High-Definition video is efficient to the distance learning and creating E-learning contents. Preparing for On-Demand streamings with High-Definition video, we have constructed and developed the system to take High-Definition video and, at the same instant, to store High-Definition video contents in a storage server. The features of this online storage system are to take video with digital video camera and simultaneously store HDV format High-Definition video data, to deploy the system inexpensively, and to be used for teacher own because of simple construction, just PC and HDV digital video camera.

We have developed the PCEC, Parallel Computing Environment on the Classroom, for educations of parallel programming. The PCEC consists of average Windows XP PCs and additional costs are not necessary. PCEC adapted MPICH2, the MPI-2 implementation from Argonne National Laboratory, in order to run MPI applications. In this report, we introduce the procedure of PCEC installation and show a benchmarking result.

The broadband experience classroom was taken place at Mishima elementary and junior high school in Iojima, the southern volcano island of Kagoshima prefecture. It is the first broadband experience classroom on the small isolated island in Japan. In the classroom, participants attended 1) video conference with Kagoshima University using ViewStation, 2) MIC-D digital microscope quiz show between Kagoshima and Iojima, 3) MPEG2 streaming over Cisco Aironet IEEE802.11g wireless network, and 4) DV video streaming from IEEE1394 over Canobeam optical beam network.
