Measurements of the high field magnetization of CrTe1-xSbx (0.0≤x≤1.0) were carried out at 4.2 K in pulsed magnetic fields up to 300 kOe. The temperature dependence of the magnetization of CrTe1-xSbx was measured in the temperature range from 4.2 K to 800 K. The magnetic phase diagram of CrTe1-xSbx (0.0≤x≤1.0) was determined, which is similar to the typical one for the mixed crystals of the layered antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic compounds proposed by de Gennes. © 1999 Elsevier Science S.A. Single crystals of an interstitially modified nitrogen compound, Nd2Fe17N3, were successfully synthesized for the first time by means of the high-pressure N2 gas nitrogenation technique. High-field magnetization curves along the rhombohedral principal axes for the Nd2Fe17 and Nd2Fe17N3 single crystals at 4.2 K indicated strong anisotropic behaviors, which were analyzed on the basis of a single-ion Hamiltonian including the Zeeman energy, exchange energy, and crystalline electric field (CEF) effect. The results indicate that the second-order CEF coefficient A20 reaches up to −1.5 × 103 K/a20 at 4.2K upon nitrogenation, which is about three times as large as that for Nd2Fe17.

The Curie temperature, lattice parameters and the Fe-57 Mossbauer spectra were studied on Y2Fe17-xMx, where M = Al(0 less than or equal to x less than or equal to ), Si(0 less than or equal to x less than or equal to 3.5) and Ga(0 less than or equal to x less than or equal to 11). The analysis of Mossbauer spectrum shows the preferential site occupation of M atoms. The preference has little dependence on M. The behavior of the Curie temperature is closely related not to the lattice dimension but to the preferential site occupation of M. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
