    <p>In the vacuum system of pneumatic conveying, the authors have proposed that a suction nozzle equipped with an injection pipe at the center would provide a highly dense, highly efficient method of transporting powder and particles. In this paper, we examined the effects of the insertion length of the suction nozzle and the injection pipe, by attaching the injection port on the outer part of the suction nozzle. The loading ratio for both cases (the injection ports positioned at the center and outer part) was not affected by the insertion length of the suction nozzle. However, the loading ratio incretion rate by the insertion length of the injection pipe was larger when the injection port was attached on the suction nozzle's outer part. From the perspective of the nozzle efficiency analysis, it was concluded that the outer injection port can be used adequately during the high flow rate ratio range.</p>

    <p>The three-transducer method using the wave propagation model is a promising method for estimating the instantaneous flow rate in a pipe that can reduce the influence of the half-wavelength spacing problem. This paper extends the correction equation to flow rate and deals with the optimizations of the correction coefficients and their verification by experiments. The error reduction mechanism of the original method is discussed based on the principle of the Method of Characteristics, and the correction equation is extended to flow rate. A numerical experiment for small amplitude waves in a pneumatic pipeline is conducted, and numerical optimizations assuming realistic pressure calibration errors were performed for a flow chirp. The optimization results showed that the coefficient of flow rate correction was almost unity, indicating the validity of introducing flow rate correction. A transient response experiment was carried out on an actual pneumatic pipeline, using a laminar flowmeter with a fast response as a flow rate measurement. Comparison with the flow rate measurements and the flow rate estimation utilizing the pressure measurements showed the difference in the trend of absolute errors depending on the coefficients. Considering robustness, the optimized coefficient under ideal conditions was the best. On the other hand, the optimized coefficient under realistic conditions was found to be the best for unsteady flow with no change in line pressure.</p>

In this paper, we examined the effect of injection port positions arranged at the inside and outside of the suction nozzle. For the first experimental condition, the effect of the injection port positions was observed with the injection velocity made equal. As a result, it was found that the loading ratio was hardly influenced by the injection port position. For the second condition, the effect of the injection velocity was clarified with the injection pipe attached to the outside of the suction nozzle. It was revealed by the visualization of particle behavior near the suction nozzle that the characteristics of the flow depend on the injection flow rate, not the injection velocity.</p>
