    <p> To drive linear switched reluctance motors with high thrust and high efficiency, it is necessary to switch the phase to be excited appropriately according to the mover position, and a position sensor is usually used. However, the position sensor has problems such as increased cost, increased volume, and decreased reliability. In this study, we aim to drive by the position sensorless control method that estimates the mover position from current and voltage for driving using the mathematical model of the magnetization curve. First, we derived the equation for calculating mover position using the mathematical model of the magnetization curve. Next, we measured the magnetization curves of the experimental machine and examined the position estimation error caused by the mathematical modeling. Finally, it was confirmed that the experimental machine could be driven well under position sensorless control up to the rated velocity.</p>

    To examine the applicability of superconducting technology to fields of industrial applications such as linear conveyor, transfer, and transport systems, we investigated the AC loss characteristics of HTS sample coils under conditions assumed for use in power electronics devices. Since inverters are used in the drive circuit of power electronics devices in a linear transfer system and so on, the drive current contains harmonic components, and then it is expected that the AC losses increase. In this study, we measured the AC loss characteristics of the HTS sample coil by the liquid nitrogen boil-off method under various conditions in which the amplitude and frequency of the harmonic current were changed. The HTS sample coils were wound by a Bi-2223 tape. The outer diameter of the sample coil is about 60 mm, and the height is about 25 mm. As the result of the measurement, the AC loss increased in proportion to the square of the harmonic current amplitude and increased in proportion to the 1.5th power of the harmonic frequency. Based on the measured results, the increase of AC losses due to the harmonic current component was discussed.

    This study presents the basic study on the application to the ropeless linear elevator of the linear switched reluctance motor with high-temperature superconducting excitation windings. In this study, a YBCO tape conductor as the high-temperature superconducting tape is used for the excitation windings. We calculate the thrust, loss, and efficiency characteristics of the new linear motor using the FEM analysis. As a result, although the new linear motor for the ropeless linear elevator can improve the motor efficiency, the efficiency considering cooling power of high-temperature superconducting coils is lower than the conventional normal-conducting machine. However, it is confirmed that the thrust density of the new linear motor can be improved compared to that of the normal-conducting machine.

    <p>This paper presents a current control and mover design method for a linear synchronous motor with half-wave-rectified self-excitation to improve its thrust characteristics. First, we propose the current control method to improve the ratio of thrust to current in a maximum thrust/current control for this linear synchronous motor. Experiments are then performed to demonstrate that the proposed current control method is effective at increasing thrust and that the current and input power required to drive this linear motor can be reduced. Next, we propose a new mover that applies the principle of half-wave-rectified self-excitation to the mover with a multi-flux barrier structure. We design the structure of the proposed mover using finite element method. As a result, it is experimentally shown that the thrust density of this linear synchronous motor with the newly designed mover is approximately 30% higher than that of the previously fabricated mover.</p>

    This paper presents a simulation model and simulation results of the operation characteristics evaluation of a half-wave-rectified self-excitation type linear synchronous motor with a multi-flux barrier mover. First, we build a simulation model considering the magnetic saturation using a circuit simulator. We calculate a current limiting curved surface and a voltage limiting curved surface to determine the operating point in the simulation. Next, we confirm the usefulness of the simulation model to compare the simulation results and analytical results using a finite element method. Furthermore, we simulate the operation characteristics using the new built simulation model.
